How much will this cost me?
For the vast majority of placements, trainees are not paid by the company they are working with. For certain hospitality placements, the national minimum wage applies. There are no administration or set up charges.
How will I benefit?
Trainees bring fresh ideas, skills and enthusiasm to your workplace, providing an invaluable resource to your team.
How good will their English be?
Trainees are expected to have a reasonable level of fluency and good conversational skills. Most will be very good.
What work can trainees do?
Trainees do a wide range of work. We liaise with you to agree the tasks for the role, making sure we meet your business requirements and the needs of the trainee.
Do my premises need to be checked?
Yes, a member of the TTPL team will visit you to ensure the suitability of premises. You must hold a current Employers’ Liability Insurance certificate.
What is the status of trainees?
All trainees hold an EU passport or valid visa to be in the UK.
What if my trainee is unsuitable?
If you feel the trainee is unsuitable for your needs, please talk to us as soon as possible. We can then resolve the situation, or do our best to find another trainee for you.
How long do participants stay?
Participants can be on a placement from 2 weeks to 6 months. This varies according to their needs.
Can I pay my trainee if they do a great job?
Most trainees are on funded EU programmes and so should not be paid, but a thank you gift at the end of their placement is acceptable.
How do trainees get to work?
Usually trainees walk to work or have a travel pass. Most of our work placement companies are near public transport links. Where this is not the case, some employers arrange lifts for their trainee. We try to place trainees in accommodation near to their work placement.
What happens on the trainee’s first day?
Trainees are collected from their home and escorted to their place of work by a TTPL representative. We arrange a time suitable to ensure the induction process is smooth and uncomplicated. From day two, trainees are expected to manage their own journeys to and from work.
