The festive guide to Devon
It may only be mid-November but with Exeter Christmas market already open and a number of events taking place this weekend, it’s time to talk about Christmas! Here’s a look at some fun festive things to see and do over the coming weeks.
When? 15th November – 16th December
Open since 15th November, the market is in a great location, with Exeter Cathedral as a beautiful backdrop. The market contains a number of stalls with a variety of gifts along with lots of food and drink including mulled wine and bratwurst!
When? 29th November – 16th December
Another large and popular Christmas market is in Plymouth, with over 50 log cabin stalls and live music taking place until 16th December.
Christmas lights switch-on
When? 17th November
A Christmas Carnival procession will make its way through the centre of Torquay, culminating with the Christmas light switch on. The Christmas carnival starts from Torquay Coach Station (next to the TTPL office) at 4:30pm and works its way to the Harbour.
When? 18th November
This year’s light switch-on has moved from a Thursday evening to Sunday, meaning this year it will be an all-day event culminating with the light switch on at 5pm.
Late night shopping
When? 4th, 11th & 18th December
One of the most popular late night shopping events, with three Tuesday evening dates in December. Great for picking-up local gifts and in a very Christmassy setting!
When? 22nd & 29th November, 6th, 13th and 20th December
Exeter is perhaps the biggest and best place to shop in the region and there’s lots of opportunity for late night shopping, with many shops staying open until 9pm on five Thursdays over the coming weeks.
Lanterns, Lights and ‘Luminations
When? 24th November 1pm-6pm
Brixham’s annual Christmas celebration lights up the harbour, featuring a lantern procession and fireworks.
