What’s On Devon… August!

It's day 73 of Summer 2019. The days are long, the tea is iced, and you can’t remember what it feels like to not have pesky bits of sand in your trainers. Yep, it can only mean one thing… it’s August in Devon! So, if you haven’t already, it’s time to squeeze the best bits out of your beautiful surrounds. August 3 & 4 – Tunes in the Castle 2019

Something new and exciting is coming to the historic Powderham Castle in Exeter! Tunes in the Castle is set to do exactly what it says on the tin, as artists from all corners of the globe will be bringing the castle and its beautiful surroundings to life with their melodies. Join the likes of Newton Faulker and his guitar, as well as the soulful Joss Stone, James Morrison, Pixie Lott and loads more!

 

August 14th – British Firework Championships Plymouth

Whilst we love our lighter evenings in August, the month also hones The British Firework Championships in Plymouth! Set across the 14th & 15th, an eager crowd of 200,000 are anticipated to once again congregate at Plymouths Hoe for the best view of the night's sky, set alight by one of the best firework displays in the country!

The firework displays start each evening at dusk fall at 9:30pm, with each competitor performing an impressive 10-minute display! The competitors to watch out for are as followed:

Wednesday, August 14 –

  • Phoenix Fireworks
  • Aurora Fireworks

Thursday, August 15 –

  • 1st Galaxy Fireworks
  • Illusion Fireworks
  • Selstar Fireworks

 

August 10th- 18th – Paignton Regatta Community Fun Week

Paignton Regatta is back for its 172nd Year! (Yep… you read that right!) And you’d be right in thinking practice makes perfect as it’s back for yet another unforgettable year!

16 August – Regatta Fireworks

Some argue Plymouths British Firework Championships are, in fact, a warm-up to Paigntons very own spectacle in the sky... either way, regatta week wouldn’t be the same without the impressive firework display. Head down from 7pm to catch some good vibes, with live music, a fully licensed bar and plenty of food options!

17 August – Family Dog Show.

If you hadn’t yet realised, we are pet (and specifically dog) crazy here in the UK! So naturally, there is a dog show that welcomes all-paw shapes and sizes! Classes of 2019 include, cutest puppy, the dog most like its owner, waggiest tail and best sausage catcher!

 

August 15 – 26 - Torre Abbey Open Air Cinema Festival 2019

After last year’s huge success, Torre Abbey is back for another alfresco delight as its set to showcase a variety of some of the most iconic films past and present in its beautiful grounds. Why not take a trip down Cherry Lane by watching Mary Poppins Returns, or, catch a modern classic with the likes of The Greatest Showman and A Star Is Born. August 26 – Bank Holiday!

Monday, 26th August marks the highly anticipated August bank holiday! A day when the banks are officially closed and kept as a public holiday. Take this day off to relax, unwind and make some special memories!

 

August 30 & 31 – Dartmouth Royal Regatta

Impressively pipping Paignton Regatta to the post by 3 years, Dartmouth Regatta is back for its 175th year! Adorned as one of the most important dates in the South Devon calendar, thousands ascend to Dartmouth on this jam-packed weekend of sailing, sports, live music, fireworks and much much more! Head down to Dartmouth for a weekend you won’t forget!

August 31 - Burn it Down Festival
