Global Programmes focus: Australia
As our offering of Global Programmes available to participants from the UK changes and develops, we’d like to focus on the opportunities available. This week we’ll be looking at one of the most popular overseas working destinations for British people (and with good reason!), Australia.
The Working Holiday Visa available to UK citizens is an incredible opportunity to spend up to a year experiencing life in Australia, exploring the vast country and earning some good money in the process.
The programme we offer in partnership with VisitOz offers a route in to guaranteed paid work in agriculture. The programme starts with four days of rest and relaxation in the beautiful seaside town on Noosa – home to sun, surf, dolphins and koalas! Following this, it’s off to the training ranch for a week of learning farming skills and safety that will really help with working in Australia. It’s a packed week and includes some great experiences – from motorbike riding to mustering cattle.
From then on it’s off to paid work wherever that may be – the visa allows workers to stay in one work placement for up to six months, and with typical wages in Australia being high, there’s a great opportunity to enjoy everything has to offer after the work.
Who is suited to the programme?
Anyone with experience working in agriculture or grown up on a farm is a usually a perfect match. This isn’t essential, but participants need to be prepared to do physical, manual work, have a driving licence and be happy living rurally!
When is the programme available?
VisitOz welcome participants to the programme on a weekly basis (arrival on a Thursday). New participants fly to Brisbane on a Thursday morning and met by a Visitoz representative, taking away some of the pressures of arriving in a new country after a mammoth journey! September is the busiest month for new arrivals but arrival is welcomed year round.
