Feedback from an accompanying teacher

We’ve had the pleasure of welcoming 40 participants on an Erasmus+ project from Tehnicka Skola Slavonski Brod, a technical school in Croatia. The groups were joined by four accompanying teachers, including the Project Co-ordinator Gabrijela Mofardin, who has kindly shared a blog on her experience:

At the moment me and my fellow teacher are accompanying our students during their work placements in Torquay and Exeter for 2 weeks. This will provide our students with opportunity to experience real-life in another country.  Every work placement has been individually and carefully chosen according to their interests, skills, knowledge and level of English.

Prior to coming here, students had a lot of preparatory activities, from vocational English to meeting our partner Nadine Stroud from TTPL, who interviewed each and every student in order to learn their wishes, competences and skills they would like to acquire.  That level of devotion to our project has greatly contributed to meeting the objectives of this mobility programme. Our project objectives are; developed entrepreneurship, gaining new skills and knowledge, improving English and feeling of being a European citizen.

Our 40 students have been accommodated in host families. That provided them a great opportunity to experience real life in an English household and English family. There are some smaller and some considerable differences between our cultures and everyday working and living routines. The opportunity to really experience British culture is a cherished experience rarely offered to young people.

One of the greatest values of mobility projects is the emotional growth of young people who, after this experience, have the chance to see their work path more clearly, to understand what they want to do next and to learn about themselves, too.

During all the time of managing this mobility project our partner TTPL has proven itself to be trustworthy, dedicated and reliable, resourceful and very helpful. Every member of their staff has regularly been in contact, providing us with needed information and answering every question with a friendly attitude. TTPL has proven itself to be a partner you can rely on to;

  • Provide suitable work placements for every individual student according to their wishes, skills and knowledge
  • Provide experience of meeting English culture and their way of work and life to the fullest
  • Meet the arranged goals of the project
  • Understand their role as a host partner organisation and arrange all tasks and duties to be done timely and correctly.

I have very much enjoyed my time in the Torquay, Devon and am looking forward to continuing our partnership with TTPL on new mobility projects in the future.
