Fabulous Flotsam 50!
Nestled within the heart of one of the UK’s most quintessential fishing towns, Brixham, lies the unassumingly daring Flotsam 50! Since opening in 2017, owners Jason and Jo Dart, have created a shop that doubles up as a creative gallery for all things alluring and unique, whether they’re new, vintage or upcycled. Oh, and if the aroma oozing from the homemade bath soaps (yes, they do that too!) wasn’t enough to entice you in, then perhaps an art course in their maker's studio might just do it. Sounds fabulous, doesn’t it? And to top it off, they are a truly fantastic work placement provider to our applicants who wish to pursue a career within the creative realm.
Throughout their placements, our participants have worked on a range of projects, including upcycling an old Mexican wooden table into a vibrant centrepiece, to painting decorative over-sized fish to adorn the streets of Brixham. Each piece created has found a proud place within the shop, until sold to the luckiest bidder! Participants have also had the opportunity to partake in Flotsams sought after creative workshops, where they’ve been able to learn brilliant new skills and techniques, including, marbling and stencilling.
The experience and knowledge our participants have gained from working at Flotsam 50 is unprecedented! Creativity is contagious as soon as you step into the shop, and Jason and Jo’s generosity and commitment to ensure our participants have a truly worthwhile experience is so prevalent.
So, as we take a moment to reminisce the past 12 months, we’d like to say a very big thank you to Flotsam 50 for being an incredible work placement provider, and here’s to an even more fabulous 2020!
