Bigwave Business Games 2019
Amongst other exciting firsts for TTPL in 2019, this year we are proudly competing in The Bigwave Business Games, an annual competition comprised of several challenges built to test business employees in the South West whilst raising vital funds for local charities!
As we hit the halfway point, we thought we’d update our supporters (we know you’re out there) on how we’re fairing so far!
Challenge 1 – Treasure Hunt
The first fixture saw Team TTPL adorn Dora the Explorer vibes, as teams were let loose around Paignton Zoo to solve really wild- clues. Now.. at risk of sounding like sore losers... Team TTPL were FIRST back with an unchallengeable time of 1 hour 16 minutes, yet, our victory was taken away from us as the formidable Francis Clarke scored an impressive 40 out of a possible 42 correct answers.
Challenge 2 – Touch Tennis
The second challenge, Touch Tennis held at Torquay Lawn Tennis Club, saw Team TTPL muster up their best doubles impression.
Differentiating itself from tennis, touch tennis is played on smaller Mini Tennis courts, with softballs and shorter Mini Tennis Rackets. Whilst Team TTPL started with serves similar to that seen on Centre Court, 12 testing matches saw us ending in a respectable 5th place!
Challenge 3 – Mini Olympics
Challenge 3 saw teams put down the rackets and pick up the egg and beanbags, as Team TTPL were put to the test in 6 events testing a spectrum of athletic ability. From shuttlecock shenanigans to bocce (yep-we had to google it too), we were put through our paces. Luckily, however, we had two very special cards up our sleeves – in the form of our amazing German students, Julian and Julian! Admittedly, we owe the success of this round to the boys! Not only did they row us to victory with the greatest distance amongst us, but Julian managed a highly impressive 52 press ups in 60 seconds!
So, as it stands Team TTPL is joint in 6th place with Paignton Zoo/ Living Coasts, out of 12 competitors. As we race into the final week of the Torbay Big Wave Business Games 2019, all that stands in our way of a righteous victory is challenge 4 & 5 – Short Mat Bowls and a Pub Quiz! Should be easy, right?
