Back in the Bay - Johanna’s return to Devon

This year, we've seen a few familiar faces return to Torbay and rekindle some memories from time spent in the English Riviera. We were delighted to see former student Johanna recently, popping down to a Tuesday evening social and catching-up. Here are some words from Johanna on her visit back to the Bay...

This is my short story about revisiting my host family after 2 years.

My name is Johanna, I'm 21 years old and I live in Germany. I lived in Torquay from January - July 2017 and worked in a company in Newton Abbot.

This summer, I decided that it was time to revisit my host family and spend a few days in Torbay. So I took a flight to London and drove to Newton Abbot by bus. Just like two years ago, my host family picked me up from the bus stop and they were just as excited as me about my spontaneous visit.

When we arrived at their home, I got to know the other 3 students that are staying with my host family at the moment. One boy and one girl from Germany and one boy from Russia. We had dinner together and we were chatting about everything that has happened during the last 2 years.

On the day after my arrival I took the train to Exeter, one of my favourite cities in the area. I went shopping, saw the cathedral and had lunch at my favourite restaurant. In the evening, I went to the weekly student meeting at Rock Garden where I met Debra from TTPL. It was lovely to see her again!

On Wednesday I took the bus to Torquay. I went for a walk by the harbour and had a cream tea at my favourite café.

On Thursday I spend the morning with my host mum. It was her day off so we drove to Torquay and had an English Breakfast. That's something I definitely missed during the last 2 years!

Today, I'm flying back to Germany. I had the best time revisiting my host family and it definitely wasn't my last visit!
