Top tips for students and graduates

Recently we visited the Royal Agricultural University Careers Fair in Cirencester, to talk with students looking for experiences and opportunities around the world in agriculture.

As part of the event we were also asked to answer some questions regarding work-related advice for students and graduates. Read Business Development Director Nadine’s answers below:

What you would say are the top skills your company looks for?

For our internships abroad, enthusiasm, commitment and flexibility are the top soft skills we look for.

How would you define “work ready” and how can student prepare for graduate work?

A mixture of academic and vocational skills. Practical experience and soft skills are as important as good grades in today’s job market.

What’s the biggest mistake someone can make in an interview?

Being late or unprepared.

What advice would you give to recent graduates or those about to finish university?

Broaden your horizons, get some potential experience and identify how your leisure time interests can be used on your CV to boost your employability.

What’s your top tip when preparing for an interview?

Prepare, prepare, prepare!

Cheesy, but do you have a motivational quote that has helped you stay motivated?

“Don’t puff up, don’t shrink. Stand your sacred ground.” (Brene Brown)  Ultimately…Just be you!
