At our Work Placement Presentation event back at the start of December, we announced BEEP as our chosen charity for 2018. But what is BEEP and why did we decide to support the charity?
BEEP (Business Empowering Employment Programme) provides life-changing experiences for young people struggling to step on to the work ladder. The charity was set up to continue the work of the Rugby Empowering Employment Programme (REEP), made possible by funding from the 2015 Rugby World Cup in Exeter, along with donations and support from local partners. The aim is to unlock a young person’s potential through confidence building, mentor support and employment skills.
At our Work Placement Event, a presentation was given by Sandra Sampson, one of BEEP’s founding trustees about the work they do. £135 was raised in donations on the day from those at the event and in addition we pledged £650 – the cost of one person’s place on the programme.
Speaking about our support of BEEP, Nadine, Business Development Director, said: “There is such a great amount of synergy between Erasmus+ and BEEP so it was a simple decision to support them. We are determined to raise enough funds to bring the programme to Torbay in 2018. There are many local young people who can benefit from the brilliant work and support that BEEP and their mentors offer. We will be holding some fun fundraising events next year and encouraging all of our employers to get on board.”
