Five great events happening in May
With two bank holiday weekends to look forward to and summer approaching, May is a busy month in the area for events and things to do. Here’s a pick of five events taking place in Torbay and Exeter:
Paignton Beach Bike Festival 2018
When? Friday 4th - Sunday 6th May
Where? Paignton Seafront
How much? £4 Friday, £6 Saturday, £5 Sunday
For the first weekend in May, Bikers Make a Difference (BMAD) will transform Paignton Green into an adrenaline junkie’s dream! In addition to the masses of motorbikes, there will be displays, rides, live music and the infamous Wall of Death!
Exeter Festival of South West Food and Drink
When? Saturday 5th - Monday 7th May, plus Exeter Beats Thursday 4th - Sunday 6th May
Where? Exeter Castle Courtyard & Northernhay Gardens
How much? Advance day tickets £8.00, Exeter Beats Festival £13.50 per night
Now in its 15th year, the South West Food and Drink Festival will take place in the centre of the city around Exeter Castle Courtyard and Northernhay Gardens. The Festival features live music, chef demos, workshops and of course a huge range of street food stalls. There’s also some great live music in the evenings as part of the new Exeter Beats festival.
Brixham Pirate Festival
When? Saturday 5th - Monday 7th May
Where? Brixham Harbour
How much? Free
Thousands will descend on the small and friendly fishing town of Brixham for the popular Pirate Festival. It’s a great place to visit and the added mixture of pirates, live music and market stalls make it a great option.
Regular buses run to Brixham, but the perhaps the best and cheapest way of getting there is by boat from Torquay. Western Lady runs a regular ferry service – the 35-minute journey is a great way to see the bay and a return journey costs £3. More info can be found at www.westernladyferry.com
Devon County Show
When? Thursday 17th - Saturday 19th may
Where? Westpoint Arena, Exeter
How much? Day tickets £19
The Devon County Show is a showcase for aspects of life and work in the county as well as entertainment, shopping and good food. There’s a lot to see and do for all the family, with guest performances in the show arena.
When? Saturday 26th May - Wednesday 30th May
Where? Brixham Harbour
How much? Majority of events are free
Brixfest is another great festival in the heart of Brixham and there are a big variety of events taking place over five days, including music, fireworks, food stalls and even a DragonBoat challenge!
